Only once…

Funny, particulary when once again you can read that “there’s a positive link between online piracy and visits to legal music stores, irrespective of people’s interest in music. The study concludes that the music industry should not see piracy as a growing concern.” (from TorrentFreak).

Overview of spams received

Having a blog, either as tiny as this very one, lead to getting quite a lot of spams, sent as comments. Currently it’s more than 100 spams per week; here is a short overview of those spams contents:

  • the vast majority of spams are in english except for some in chinese.
  • there is more and more long text spams
  • the most aggressive spams (by count and post size) are related to “sac Longchamp” (a “sac” is the french word for “bag”)
  • except for those, the majority of spams are generally related to shoes (“fake ugg boots”, “Nike”, “jordan shoes” and “Louboutin”) or glasses (“ray ban”)
  • others are either random or related to some sports events (“NFL Jersey” for instance seems quite popular)
  • only 2 sex-oriented spams were received (the web is no more what it used to be… ^^)

frcup maps repack

Yet another Quake III: Defrag maps repack, the whole FRCup set, from 01 up to 37, is available!

Get the frcup_repack.zip file (~90Mb), rename it as “frcup_repack.pk3”, drop it into your defrag folder and enjoy ^^

Each map is named after the comp. number (ie, frcup01, frcup02, and so on) except for the following maps:

  • FRCup30 is called ‘frcup30v2’
  • FRCup31 is called ‘frcup31_’

dfcup maps repack

The whole set of Quake III: Defrag DFCup maps is now available in a single map pack: dfcup_repack.zip (~11Mb).

Rename the file as “dfcup_repack.pk3″ and drop it into your defrag folders.

Each map is named after the comp. number (ie, dfcomp01, dfcomp02, …) except ‘dfcup05” which doesn’t exists as such and is called “flapadingue” (o/ Toulouz !)

pcount: a simple but fast Linux process counter

While there is many different ways to do it, having a dedicated tool to count how many processes an executable file are currently running was one of my need. And because I wanted a really performant way of doing it, I wrote this tiny tool named pcount.

Here is the full C source code, no specific license attached, the code is really too trivial to claim for anything ^^:

Multiple Monit accessed through a single URL scheme with Apache mod_rewrite

Just in case you don’t know it, Monit is a really neat tool for UNIX and alike systems, helping to manage and check a whole lot of stuff, including daemons, files and processes.

The best and preferable way to manage many Monit instances is to buy the M/Monit software, made by the same team and allowing to support their great work. But, in some situations you can’t get M/Monit and one might find useful the following quick’n dirty Apache‘s mod_rewrite tip.
